To help employers navigate through legal pitfalls when using the Internet to screen job applicants, Attorney Lester Rosen, CEO of Employment Screening Resources (ESR), will present the webinar “Screening Applicants Using Social Networking Sites” with Clear Law Institute on November 12, 2015, from 3:00 PM to 4:15 PM ET.
“Employers have discovered a treasure trove of information on job applicants using social networking sites,” explains Rosen, author of ‘The Safe Hiring Manual,’ a guide to background checks. “However, just because information exists online does not mean it can legally be used as part of the hiring process without any risks.”
Since many companies do not realize the potential risks associated with using social networking sites and search engines to recruit and screen applicants, the webinar will examine the pros and cons of utilizing online data, including what is available, discrimination issues, legal off-duty conduct, privacy, accuracy, and authenticity.
Through case studies, legal decisions, and reviewing web sites, attendees will learn how social networking sites work, what they may find, and the legal landmines and practical risks involved. Participants will learn strategies for getting information they need while minimizing potential complaints for discrimination or invasion of privacy.
- Learn how employers, human resources and recruiters are using search engines and social networking sites to screen candidates.
- Review what sites are available and what you may find.

- Uncover best practices for all stakeholders: Employers, HR, recruiters and the job applicant.
